Jim Coogan, Author
Jim Coogan was raised on Cape Cod in the town of Brewster. After military service, he began a career as a high school history teacher. Since his retirement from teaching in 1999, Jim has written thirteen books about Cape Cod, including Sail Away Ladies: Stories of Cape Cod Women in the Age of Sail, which received the 2004 U.S. Maritime Literature Award for best maritime writing by an independent publisher. His book, Cape Cod Harvest: A Gathering in of Cape Cod Stories, written with Dennis author Jack Sheedy and published in the spring of 2007, was a finalist in Foreword Magazine’s 2007 Book the Year awards. Sheedy and Coogan also collaborated on Cape Odd: Strange and Unusual Stories About Cape Cod (2010) and Cape Cod Collected: A Selection of the Cape’s Greatest Stories (2015.)
More recently, Jim has moved toward writing books for children. His popular Clarence the Cranberry Who Couldn’t Bounce (2002), was followed by I Saw a Sea Monster, Yes I Did!!! (2006) and Priscilla the Amazing Pinkywink in 2008, and Cecelia the Seal Gets a Meal in 2013. More recently, he published Johnny Tent Boy’s Turkey in 2020.
He has two novels. Sears Point, was released in 2016 and Cape Cod Passage was released in 2022.
Jim is a former columnist for the Cape Cod Times daily newspaper and is owner and publisher of Harvest Home Books in East Dennis, Massachusetts.
He lives with his wife Elizabeth in Sandwich, Massachusetts.
